Jason Bonham, son of LED ZEPPELIN's John Bonham, had first made his mark on the world of hard rock with membership of both AIRRACE
and VIRGINIA WOLF in the mid 80s. The drummer had also contributed
his clearly inherited skills to post LED ZEPPELIN projects by his late father's colleagues, JIMMY PAGE's "Outrider" album and Robert
Plant's "Pictures At Eleven". Bonham had met former SCORCHER vocalist Daniel
McMaster and asked him to join new project. The band also wound up comprising bassist/keyboardist John Smithson and
ex-HONEYDRIPPERS guitarist Ian Hatton. YES guitarist Trevor Rabin assisted with
arrangements. Gaining hugely from Jason Bonham's pedigree, BONHAM still surprised many
with the undoubted quality of the Bob Ezrin produced debut "The
Disregard Of Timekeeping". It scored an enormous success in the USA, debuting at #51
on the American charts. In 1992, BONHAM's second album, "Madhatter",
was released, produced by Tony Platt. Although a worthy follow up, the record failed to match its predecessor's sales and forced Bonham into a
re-think. Changing tack, the band adopted a new stance, a new vocalist in Marti Frederiksen and the revised title of
MOTHERLAND.
